UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas eyes a third consecutive girls title while National University Nazareth School seeks a back-to-back in the boys side Friday in the UAAP Season 87 high school beach volleyball tournament at Sands SM By The Bay.
The Junior Tiger Sands will open their title-retention campaign against UP Integrated School at 10 a.m., followed by the 4:15 p.m. clash with De La Salle-Zobel to close out opening day action in the six-team girls division.
The Bullpups will have two boys contests, against last season's third placers UST at 7 a.m. and University of the East at 2 p.m.
In other girls fixtures, last year's runner-up Far Eastern University-Diliman plays De La Salle-Zobel at 10:45 a.m., while Adamson University, which reached the podium in the first two seasons, take on NUNS to open the afternoon session at 3 p.m.
Other morning boys matches features FEU-D and Adamson at 7:45 a.m., UE and Ateneo at 8:30 a.m. and De La Salle-Zobel and UPIS at 9:15 a.m. The Baby Tamaraws and the Junior Green Spikers return in the afternoon session at 2 p.m.
UST and NU split the collegiate titles last November.
The Tiger Sands completed a six-peat in the men's division, while the Lady Bulldogs secured their first-ever women's championship.
Tournament format calls for a single-round elimination, with the top four teams making it to the knockout Final Four on February 2.
The semfinal winners will play in the one-off Final set also on February 2, while the losers will dispute third place, also a one-match affair.
