UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas completed its perfect run to capture the first-ever UAAP high school girls' beach volleyball title after a 21-17, 21-17 sweep of Adamson in the knockout Final match Wednesday at the Sands SM By The Bay in Pasay City.
Khylem Progella and Grydelle Matibag went undefeated in six matches, as the Junior Tigresses never dropped a set in the tournament.
Prior to the UAAP, Progella and Matibag played in the BVR Recharged presented by Aboitiz Land at Seafront Residences last month where the Cebuana pair made major impression.
"Sinasabi ko nga sa kanila, itong championship na 'to ay napaka-epesyal," UST coach John Paul Doloiras said. "Kung magkuwentuhan sila balang araw, sila yung bida kasi sila yung nag-champion sa unang UAAP na ito."
"Sobrang blessing rin na nakuha nila kasi grabe rin yung kuwento nitong dalawang batang ito. Nagsimula sila sa grassroots namin na talagang zero. Buti unti-unti silang naka-adapt," he added.
The Season Most Valuable Player honors went to Matibag, who produced the title-clinching power tip.
