THE Philippines hopes to fare well in the main draw of the Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championships at the Nuvali Sand Courts in Santa Rosa, Laguna on Thursday.
Six-time Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour champion Ranran Abdilla teams up again with fellow Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist James Buytrago, while four-time BVR winner Rancel Varga is joined by debutant Lerry Francisco in the men's division.
Sipalay leg champions Khy Progella and Sofiah Pagara hopes to deliver their A-game at home eekalong with BVR on Tour veterans Kly Orillaneda and Gen Eslapor in the women's side.
Varga and Francisco will set in motion Alas' campaign in Pool C as they face Australia's D’Artagnan Potts Jack and Pearse at the TV court 12:50 p.m., while Abdilla and Buytrago will have their Pool F opener against New Zealand's Alani Nicklin and Thomas Hartles at 1:40 p.m.
Progella and Pagara will make their Pool E debut against New Zealand's Shaunna Polley and Olivia MacDonald at 8:50 a.m., while Orillaneda and Eslapor will have their first Pool F match versus Kazahkstan's Katya Ryukhova and Anastassiya Ukolova at 9:40 a.m.
In the afternoon session, Progella and Pagara returns to face Australia's Lizzie Alchin and Jasmine Fleming at 3:20 p.m., while Orillaneda and Eslapor will go up against Thailand's Tanarattha Udomchavee and Rumpaipruet Numwong at 4 p.m.
Orillaneda and Eslapor will face Japan’s Asami Shiba and Chika Nakagawa, bagged in the bronze medal in the 2024 FIVB Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures Qingdao tomorrow. The two will have a chance to avenge the loss suffered by Progella and Pagara to the Japanese pair in the quarterfinals.
The matches will be seen live on One Sports+ and in the Pilipinas Live app.
Stefie Fejes and Jana Milutinovic will be back to seek another title. The Aussie pair ruled the AVC Beach Tour Nuvali Open in April.
Iran’s Abbas Pourasgari and Alireza Aghajanighasab, who also won the AVC Beach Tour Nuvali Open, are returning for another championship run.
