THE two Alas Pilipinas women's teams fell short in their quarterfinals bids Friday in the Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championship at the Nuvali Sand Courts in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

Progella and Pagara bowed to fourth-seeded Xue Chen and Zeng Jinjin of China, 14-21, 11-21, in the Round of 16.

"We tried to keep it close but it was really tough to overcome their advantage in height and experience," Progella said.

Xue is a four-time Olympian who played in the Paris Games together with Xia Xinyi.

Progella and Pagara suffered a heartbreaking 21-14, 16-21, 10-15 defeat to another Chinese pair, Yu Tong and Jiang Kaiyue, at the close of Pool E play Thursday.

Kly Orillaneda and Gen Eslapor were also eliminated in the Round of 16, as China's top-ranked Wang Jingzhe and Xia Xinyi showed superiority, dropping a 13-21, 8-21 decision.

In the Round of 18 earlier in the day, Orillaneda and Eslapor prevailed over Japan's Kana Motomura and Nayu Motomura, 21-18, 21-16.

In the men's side, the pairs of Ranran Abdilla and James Buytrago and Rancel Varga and Lerry Francisco bowed out of the tournament Thursday.
